![]() ![]() Geist-Honored Monk - One of the best creatures to abuse with Seance and populate. He can however be useful at getting rid of problem cards from an opponents' grave or get you value from your used spells. Keep in mind that unless you bin lands to Grisly Salvage, he doesn't have any way to get lands to grave, and can't be a mana dork. Not a terrible choice though for accelerating.ĭeathrite Shaman - A new addition, and a versatile one at that. If we don't see a Temple Garden, Arbor Elf shuts out that color option, and it is important. Unlike Arbor Elf, it will give us white mana, which won't always happen with the Elf. Since we have a relatively slow start, Arbor Elf can allow us to accelerate into the mid game that we excel at.Īvacyn's Pilgrim - The other accelerator option, Pilgrim comes with an upside and a downside. Grisly Salvage also has the added bonus of fetching a creature for a push when we need it.Īrbor Elf - Thanks to a reprinting of the shocklands, Arbor Elf has had a massive spike in his level of usefulness. Both allow us to dig for the lands we need, as well as pitching creatures to the bin. Mulch/ Grisly Salvage - These two cards are the core of our strategy to set the graveyard up. He becomes even more terrifying when you can constantly spam him. Thragtusk - Thragtusk is a monster in standard, which everyone already knew. While she has a somewhat-difficult casting cost, both of her abilities are able to completely take over a game, especially when combo'd with Seance. Trostani, Selesnya's Voice - Our other primary populate creature. When combo'd with Seance, it can actually populate itself to stick around and give you an army of self-replicating Guildmages. The Guildmage is can either be an army in a can, or the means to bolstering an army we already have. Vitu-Ghazi Guildmage - One of the most important cards in the deck, and one of our two primary populate creatures. Any token populated will stick around, so we basically gain the ability to spam any of our creatures once we are set up. That token leaves play at the end of the turn, but we are able to gain value from our creatures with either enter the battlefield triggers or by populating the token. This allows us to make a token copy of any creature in our graveyard by removing it during either players upkeep. Seance - The namesake of the deck, and the card that really ties the deck together. Unlike reanimator decks, every card in this deck is currently castable normally, and when the namesake card is not on the field it is still able to be an incredibly powerful deck. It spends the early turns setting up the graveyard and its creatures on the field, then uses the mid and late game to abuse the graveyard heavily. Seance decks generally play like a midrange or reanimator deck. With the introduction of the Populate mechanic however, the card is now in a position to shine. For all of Innistrad block Seance was considered a subpar, noncompetitive card. Seance decks, however, abuse a different mechanic: the creation (and population) of tokens of creatures in your graveyard. Its closest comparison is Frites, which abuses the graveyard by reanimating fatties over and over. ![]()
